How does drawing impact recall and cognition in geography? Subquestions: Which drawing strategies are useful? Are some distracting? AIMS: To use drawing based methods in geography classes to help pupils prepare for GCSE. (We will trial this project with year 8, but aim to extend to GCSE classes if it is successful.) Contribute knowledge to the Thinking Through Drawing network. Collaborate in research about drawing and cognition by Dr Rebecca Chamberlain, Phd, of Goldsmiths College, London. Some of the outcomes will be included in an instructional handbook for teachers, to help secondary school teachers use drawing based methods across different curriculum areas. The research focus is on: A. Recall. B. Cognition - Understanding, analysis, organising essays. |
